|Welcome to the Chief Architect X3 Interface|
Several improvements have been made to the Chief Architect interface to make the program more user-friendly and intuitive.
|Annotation - Working with Multiple Defaults|
An annotation set is basically a collection of defaults and layers which can be saved as a single group.
|Annotation - Working with Annotation Sets|
Annotation Sets control a subset of defaults including Dimensions, Text, Arrows, Markers, Callouts, and Layers. Annotation Sets can be used to quickly change your defaults and streamline the annotation process.
|Annotation - Using Layer Sets with Annotation Sets|
Annotation Sets can work together with Layer Sets for increased control over how certain objects are displayed in different views.
|Annotation - Importing Older Version Plans with Multiple Dimension Defaults|
Plans started in versions prior to X3 will have different dimension defaults than plans started in new templates.
|New Stair Features in Chief Architect X3|
New Stair Defaults for interior and exterior stair options and editing options for riser heights, tread width, start height, and bottom height.
|Drawing Railings up the Center of a Stair|
Independent Wall Railings can now be placed over stairs, ramps and landings and have the option to follow their slope.
|Chief Architect Ramps|
The automatic Ramp option uses ADA settings and you can also manually define the settings. Specify length, slope, overhangs, and railings, set defaults and more!
|Chief Architect's Stair and Ramp Landing Tool|
Individually create landings and stairs and ramps will automatically connect to them.
|New CAD-related Features in Chief Architect X3|
Several new CAD features have been added including a Close Polyline edit tool, enhanced CAD point functionality, CAD Block insertion points, and align/distribute options.
|Placing Insertion Points in CAD Blocks|
You can now define an exact location for inserting and placing CAD Blocks by specifying Insertion Points.
|Callouts and Double Callouts|
There are now enhanced controls for Callouts including fill color, line style, line weight, double-headed callouts.
|Predictive Feedback for Centering, Reflecting, Aligning and Editing|
New Align/Distribute tool. Align objects, such as Text, with a variety of horizontal and vertical alignment options.
|Aligning and Distributing a Group of Objects|
Select two or more objects and click the Align/Distribute Objects edit button to open the Align/Distribute Objects dialog and specify how to align or distribute the selected objects vertically and/or horizontally.
|Transferring Line Style and Layer Information between Plans|
Layer sets created in one plan can be exported as a .layers file and imported into other plans.
|The Change Gable to Hip Timesaver|
New Gable and Hip Roof tool which allows you to toggle the roof between these two styles using the Gable / Hip edit tool.
|Specifying the Rafter Seat Cut|
Enhanced control of Birdsmouth cuts for Rafters. Turn off auto calculation of birdsmouth and manually specify the birdsmouth seat.
|Working with the Raise Off Plate Roof Command|
You can specify the amount to Raise/Lower From Ceiling Height, which controls the height of roof planes relative to the ceiling height specified for the rooms below.
|Working with Text Labels and Text Macros|
Text macros insert dynamic information relevant to the current plan or layout file, or a selected object.
|Using the Ruby Console to Create Macros|
New Ruby script tool can be used to configure the label display for doors, windows and cabinets to create custom labels.
|Using External Ruby Files to Access Text Macros|
The settings on the Ruby panel of Preferences let you specify the Ruby safe level and the location of any Ruby files you may run in the Ruby Console.

New dimension defaults allow you to set multiple defaults or define dimension attributes.
|New Room and Floor Features in Chief Architect X3|
Several new room and floor features have been added including finished floor/ceiling heights, the ability to specify when a room is calculated in the Living Area, and enhanced control over room specifications and labels.
|Specifying how Framing Reports to your Materials Lists|
The Structural Member Reporting dialog allows you to specify the method used to calculate framing members in the Materials List.
|Chief Architect's Built-in Ray Trace Rendering|
The new Ray Trace Rendering Engine allows for enhanced Performance of Ray Tracing with use multiple threads and multiple core processors.
